Fellowship Guidelines

Purpose

VUIAS grants VUIAS Fellowships in Ukraine for individual scholars to carry out research projects from all academic fields and to participate in the virtual and hybrid life of the Institute.

Eligibility

All disciplines and fields are welcome. Candidates must have Ukrainian citizenship or resident status and must have completed their education (minimal PhD, or equivalent degree) and must not yet be retired. Fluency in English is required.

Terms

VUIAS Fellows in Ukraine receive their fellowship while residing in their Ukrainian home institution. They carry out their projects and regularly and actively participate in the intellectual exchange and attend the Institute’s events (interdisciplinary colloquia, workshops, conferences, cultural and social events) in person or in virtual form.
The monthly stipend is 500 euros per month for postdocs and 1000 euros per month for senior scholars. VUIAS Fellowships in Ukraine are granted for ten months from September 2024 to July 2025. They cannot be extended.

Application

Applications are accepted in English and only electronically via the VUIAS application platform. The application documents are listed in detail in the Application Guidelines. Complete application materials must be received by the announced deadline. We regret that incomplete or late applications cannot be considered. No application will be accepted after January 31st, 2024, 2:00 pm CET.

Review Process

VUIAS Fellowships in Ukraine are awarded on a competitive basis. Applications are evaluated by a selection committee, which may consult external referees at its own discretion. The selection is foremost based upon the applicant’s qualification, the quality of his or her project, and his or her contribution to the composition of a diverse disciplinary and thematically balanced scholarly community. Other criteria that are considered are regional representation and gender diversity.

Notification

Applicants will be notified of the selection committee’s decision via email within six months of the application deadline. A justification of the decision will not be given.
If the candidate has accepted another fellowship for the same period as the VUIAS Fellowship in Ukraine, he/she has to notify the VUIAS team via admissions@vuias.org. In this case, the VUIAS Fellowship will be withdrawn.

Report

A report is to be presented before concluding the fellowship. It is expected that the research enabled by the VUIAS Fellowship in Ukraine will eventually be made public and VUIAS Fellows are then required to acknowledge that they have received support from VUIAS and to provide VUIAS with copies of their publications or of material documenting their works.

End of Fellowship

The VUIAS Fellowship ends when the fellow’s project is no longer pursued, or if works are interrupted for more than one month. It also ends as soon as the fellow begins another stipendiary fellowship. The fellowship can also be terminated if the fellow does not adequately seek to fulfil the stated goals of the VUIAS Fellowship, does not keep the commitments entered, or gave false or incomplete statements on the application.
